Nestled on the cliffs of Matanzas in Chile, Casa Ferran is an awe-inspiring vacation home crafted with unparalleled dedication. ERRE Arquitectos, led by Raimundo Gutiérrez, was careful to create a design that catered to three core needs: to protect from the southwestern wind, maintain privacy within the north and south sides and afford these occupants sweeping views of the lapping Pacific Ocean.
The final product is something truly remarkable; a 240 square meter U-shaped home built from steel and pine boards perched at the edge of a steep drop into the ocean. The interior emits an inviting warmth with clean white coloring and timber flooring contrasting starkly against its subdued exterior while also providing necessary contrast to its environment.
The interior layout constitutes two prominent wings flanking on either side of a central space containing living quarters as well as a kitchen, dining areas, and patio, all connected through sliding glass doors. To fulfill its goal of providing access to stunning views of the sea, it faces away from the direction of the ocean towards an enclosed courtyard planted on a slope. This allowed for added protection for those inside without sacrificing any spectacular vistas.
Throughout this project, organic architecture elements were used to craft something extraordinary, but firm features were also incorporated as per various variables, conditions, and other demands imposed during the construction process. Apart from this, each wing has been gifted with green roofs, adding another dimension to this dreamy holiday home allowing occupants to relax in tropical seclusion while still being able to take in some panoramic views here and there.
In other words, ERRE Arquitectos Casa Ferran stands out among many buildings due to its majestic U-shape silhouette surrounded by lush greenery perched atop cliffs overlooking pacific waters in Chile, making it the perfect getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of city life while still being mesmerized by its beauty.
