In an effort to create a future of sustainable architecture, Studio Vural looked back 500 million years for inspiration. The Brooklyn-based firm imagined a completely self-powered residence by taking cues from the squid's incredible rainbow flash abilities.
Dubbed Dune House, the autonomous structure is powered by solar panels and miniature wind turbines that generate more energy than it consumes. To maximize efficiency, this unique dwelling is buried in the beach of Cape Cod and shielded from external elements by its sand and native shrub facade. Inside, guests are greeted with captivating minimalist living spaces outfitted with double-height walls of glazing to let natural light and views of gorgeous coastal scenery in. Through its use of geothermal temperature regulation, energy production, and raw materials sourced directly from the environment, this stunning piece of alchemy reveals just how advanced sustainability can be.
