Dutch-based start-up: Lightyear has revealed their first production car to run on solar power, the Lightyear 0 Solar Power Car. This cutting-edge vehicle runs entirely on solar power, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious drivers. The hood and fastback roof solar panels collect energy from the sun, powering a 60 kWh battery pack, which provides enough power for the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 10 seconds, with a top speed of 100mph. The best part is that the vehicle charges whenever the top is exposed to sunlight, so if running out of juice - it's not an option in a bright sunny sky.
In fact, the company claims that in sunny climates, the car can get up to 44 miles of range per day without needing to be plugged in. And with a total EV range of 388 miles, you can take this solar-powered beauty on even the most extended road trips. Regarding commuting, the Lightyear 0 is a dream come true. The company's tests in the Netherlands found that during the summer months, the average daily commute didn't require plug-in charging for two months. They estimate that the car gets 3,700 to 6,800 miles of solar-only power per year with typical driving patterns. So, for a truly sustainable way to power your vehicle for an extended period, the Lightyear 0 is an ideal choice. For those who themselves behind the wheel, note that deliveries start in November 2022, and exclusively 964 units will be available. And for an even more affordable option, don't worry – a significantly cheaper model is scheduled to start production in 2025.
