Ncaved House is a Uniquely Designed Cliffside Retreat on the Greek Island of Serifos. Mold Architects have created a genuinely one-of-a-kind dwelling on the Greek island of Serifos named Ncaved. This seaside plot is exposed to strong north winds, so the architects decided to dig the dwelling into the rocky cliffside instead of building upwards.
The result is a stunning architectural feat that uses a rectangular grid to create a series of solids and voids, resembling a three-dimensional chessboard. The pattern ends on the far side of the house, maximizing the views of the living area. The exterior of Ncaved is coated in a facade of concrete and dry stone, which helps to camouflage the structure into the sloping terrain. On the other hand, the interior is filled with glazing walls that offer breathtaking coastal vistas. At the rear of the house, floor-to-ceiling windows create indoor gardens and flood the underground lair with light.
Throughout its three stories, the designer has used a natural palette of stone, exposed concrete, wood, and metal to recreate the rough texture of a natural cavity. This choice of materials adds to the overall rustic charm of the dwelling and makes it feel like a true retreat from the outside world.
Overall, Ncaved is a beautifully designed cliffside dwelling that takes full advantage of its unique location and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It's the perfect place to escape for those seeking a peaceful and secluded getaway on the beautiful island of Serifos.
